What appeals to me about the aesthetic is the grainy charcoal smudge that always lingers behind the clean cut lines illustrating the characters. This sort of smokey cloud is what creates the oppressive atmosphere in the film, which is appropriate, as the story tells of a childhood in Tehran during the Islamic revolution.
Every element of this creation is intact, I especially love the website, which unusually creates the illusion of depth.
